6. Common sense.
A good teacher needs to have practical qualities. Very often they need to evaluate the existing situation and find fast a way out from it. Common sense is irreplaceable in the classroom, during excursions, in choosing different educational methods, in detention policy, in work with interns and in coping with school policy and syllabus problems.
7. An ability to choose the right educational information for students.
From this point of view elementary school teachers have to have deep knowledge from different spheres of life and know how to transform it into intelligible form for students. Teachers in Secondary schools need to have good knowledge in one or two subjects such as English or mathematics.
8. Good teacher sets the expected high level of knowledge for students and make them keep to that level.
This means that good teacher is exigent not only towards the students, but also towards himself or herself.
9. Discipline.
A disorganized individuality shouldn’t become a teacher because this profession requires such qualities as detail orientation and discipline of a person.
10. Good time management.
A session may seem too short sometimes and the amount of information is too large. That’s why one of the most important qualities of good teacher is an ability to track the time and plan the session rationally.
11. An ability to lead or to obey (depending on situation).
This quality is also essential for a teacher since tutors often take part in different councils, meetings and committees. And it’s important to have spirit and defend own interests in such organization. Teacher is to be the leader for students and, sometimes, in such organizations. That’s why future teacher has to realize the importance of this quality.
12. Endeavour and carefulness
Teachers should be thorough and punctual not only in the matters concerning the occupation, but in their everyday life. Such qualities of character should be formed from school and college since they are very important in teacher’s work. Successful students will change into successful teachers in some period of time. They should be aware of syllabus details, stick to deadlines and obey the rules in the college.
