| Deciding on Your Niche | There are exceptions of course. If you can travel, you may find some talented youngster who needs to have a tutor along during a road trip while he performs music or she participates in a sporting tournament. If you are a science teacher, you can provide discounted buying services to homeschoolers seeking for lab equipment.
Frequently your experience as a teacher would make you an excellent field trip coordinator. You may start a homeschool children's book club. Very often conference coordinators would like to have someone lead a teen session or provide a set of interesting sessions for elementary aged children while the homeschool parents attend their own sessions. Conference season lasts from about April to September, and events are held all over the country.
If your forte is finding resources at a library, see if your local library is willing to let you hold a weekly homeschoolers class in which you help the kids and teens that show up how to locate and use the library for their own research.
Testing or evaluation are required by some states. It must be given by a qualified teacher. Find out if this is the case in your state, as such teachers who are sympathetic toward homeschooling and willing to interpret a lot of "relaxed" learning into educationalese are few are far between.
